Details

Join us for a big biolitz at Springfield Quarry!

This hidden oasis, once a busy working quarry is now a haven for all sorts of wildlife: bats, birds, plants, bugs and much more! Join us to find out exactly what we can find here!

Session 1 (9-10:30am): Birds and moths – Simon Stuart will help us listen out to the different birdsong and see what birds we can see. We will also have a look at what moths were attracted to the moth trap that was set out the previous night, before releasing them to safety.
Session 2 (10:30-11): Plants – Carol Stone and Mark Bagott will help us identify the many different trees and plants that grow in this sheltered old quarry
Session 3 (11-11:30): Minibeasts – Cat Baker will help us explore all the different creepy crawlies you can find here, from beetles to butterflies and beyond.

Please wear weather appropriate clothes and footwear.  Please also note a maximum of two children per responsible adult, the safety of your children remains your responsibility. Risk of falling rocks: Please ensure you or your children do not stray near the edge of the quarry walls or fencing. In the event of poor weather, this event may be cancelled or postponed at our discretion, participants will be notified of this as soon as possible via Eventbrite. You can come for the part of the event that most interests you if you prefer – but note that times are approximate.  Please ensure you enter the quarry via Entry Hill Park.
